Hello friends,
I hope you all are doing so well! I am now 3+ months into motherhood, and I think this means I now have a baby and not a newborn anymore? That is wild! My little bundle of joy has learned how to smile, coo, reach for objects in front of her, and melt my heart with her little squeals.
During pregnancy, I spent so much time worried about how I was going to take care of my new baby. Fortunately, 3 months in, I realized that I can take care of my baby and adapt to her ever-changing needs. But I realized the harder part of my most recent days has been learning how to meet my own needs and making sure that I am also taking care of myself.
It’s funny, in a world that throws around the term “self-care” so often in various ways, it can be easy to lose sight of what it means. Self-care is doing what you need to take care of yourself holistically, and that can look different in various times of your life.
A few months ago, I would have said my self-care would involve exercising, therapy, getting dinner with friends, and occasionally treating myself to a rose or lavender bath.
Nowadays, I honestly have to work hard in order to make sure I can meet my basic needs of sleeping, eating, and drinking water. Once I can meet those physical needs, my next priority is getting a chance to move my body and clear my head with exercise or a walk in this beautiful weather, journaling, or social outings with friends. And then once I can meet my mental and emotional needs, maybe I’ll be able to get back to treating myself to reading a book in a rose-scented bath again one day.
As proud as I am of our products, self-care is not always bath bombs and scented candles. Self-care is not just a trendy topic. Self-care is meeting ourselves where we are and giving our mind and body what it needs in the moment to survive and then thrive.
If you are just trying to meet your basic needs right now, I see you.
If you are a step above and working on self-care in terms of getting more exercise, eating well to nourish your body, or meeting your therapist regularly, I see you.
If you are rocking it, and your self-care is a bubble bath with lit scented candles, I’m so proud of you.
And if your self-care looks completely different than what I listed, I’m so happy for you.
I’m wishing you all a great week in which we all work to meet our own needs. Take care of yourself friends!
Cheers,
Cathy
