I hope you all are safe, healthy, and well! I will be honest; this has been a difficult time both personally (I am sure we can all agree social distancing from loved ones is hard) and professionally. The last few months have been a hard time for small businesses. It has been tough seeing sales decrease, financial projections not met, and to still be uncertain of what the future holds. But there is one thing that we have been certain of all along and that we hold steadfast. 700 Rivers was created to make a positive impact in this world and that is exactly what we are doing.
While most business books tell small business owners to hold on to profit, especially during uncertain times such as these, we have purposefully been doing the opposite. We have been pouring our profits into helping those in our local community and across the world. With your help, we were able to use the profits from our first quarter to create reusable masks per the CDC recommended designs for workers at Designed for Joy, a local non-profit in Raleigh that helps women transition from human trafficking, domestic violence, drug addiction, and more into steady jobs with living wages. These women needed face masks donated in order to be able to go back to work, and 700 Rivers was able to provide them. We are so happy to be able to support our like-minded neighbors that help local women transition from vulnerable situations into steady jobs. I highly encourage you to check out their website to learn more about them and support their mission too.
We are using profits from our second quarter to fund the production and donation of reusable fabric face masks for 400 children living in an orphanage in Dhaka, Bangladesh. 700 Rivers has been continuing to employ our artisans with steady work and living wages by paying them to sew these fabric face masks. We are working hard to help protect the orphaned children that do not have others advocating for them by providing them with protection from the global pandemic. We are only four soap set orders away from being able to provide a fabric face mask for all 400 residents of this orphanage. If you want to help and have the means to do so, there are two ways in which you can contribute!
700 Rivers has always focused on putting people before profits. This time is not just about business. It is about humanity. It is about taking care of each other. Let’s be the change we want to see in the world.
Thank you always for your support. Your impact is incredible!
